It's All in a Name - Coco, Godiva & Truffle

My Cousin Pedro did the REALLY cool post yesterday called "It's All In A Name - Pedro" and i though it would be really cool if we turned it into a tag so that we could get to know how our friends got their names. Well, Cousin Pedro liked the idea and he tagged me first! Thank you Cousin Pedro...this is going to be so much fun!

Since i share my bloggy with my two little sisters, I will be telling you how they got their names too. After i tel you about me and my sisters names, i will tell you the interesting story about our last name. Since my mommy has a really unique name i suppose i will tell you what it means too. Let me get mommy's name over with first.

My mommy's name is LeeTal (yes it really has a capital letter in the middle of it and it is spelt as one word). LeeTal is a Hebrew name and it means "a glass of dew as a gift from g-d".

The day that my mommy brought me home she spent the entire ride home going back and forth with my daddy about what to name me. they both agreed that it had to "fit" me. My mommy wanted to name me Abigail but i didn't look like an Abigail. This is the list of some of the names that my mommy and daddy thought of :

  • Abigail
  • Sophia (after Sophia Loren)
  • Gwendolin
  • Honey
  • Sugar
  • Sweetie
  • Baby
  • Rhiannon (after the Stevie Nicks Song)
  • Judy (after Judy Garland)
And then my daddy said "Coco". My mommy looked down at me and because i was so young and small my mommy said "Aww, she looks like a little Princess Coco Bean". So that was it; from that point on mommy and daddy called me Princess Coco Bean.

When my mommy decided that i was potty trained enough and that it was time for me to have a sister she started thinking about names. Mommy knew that she wanted another female and kind of wanted to stick to the whole chocolate theme but not be cheezy or cliche about it. When she found the picture of Godiva she knew exactly what to call her..."Lady Godiva". This name has two meanings to it...The first is Godiva which sticks to the chocolate name theme that my mommy was going for and the second is her full name "Lady Godiva". The story of Lady Godiva is of an Anglo-Saxon noblewoman whom according to legend, rode naked through the streets of Coventry, in England, in order to gain remission of the oppressive taxation imposed by her husband on his tenants.

When mommy realized that she may be bringing home more than just one puppy for her birthday she started to panic. OMD...she had to think of another name that was interesting and had meaning to it. And it had to be a cure Chocolate related name that would "fit" this third dog. So I helped my mommy write a post here on my bloggy and asked my friends and their humans for help. We got a lot of responses but we wouldn't be able to choose a name until we actually saw this third puppy. Lady Godiva already had a name so mommy brought the list of names and as soon as she saw Godiva's sister she knew immediately that Truffle was the name for her! She looked like a fat little round truffle.

Me and my sisters have my mommy's Last name. Our last name is Lavi. My mommy's daddy was born in Yugoslavia just before the war broke out. When my mommy's daddy was just 9 months old the war started to get really bad and my great grand parents immigrated from Yugoslavia to Jerusalem. They didn't want people to know that they were immigrants so they changed their last name from Krivokapich to Lavi. Krivokapich supposedly means "crooked hat" in Serbo-Croation. Lavi means "lion" in Hebrew.

So that's our story and a little bit about our family history.

I would like to tag My Cousin Rambo & his sister Molly Midget. Now, apparently, there has been some laziness going on in his home and his g-mom hasn't been letting him blog much lately so i am going to also tag Tessa the Maltese and Khyra the Siberian Husky! I would also like for any of my other friends to participate if they would like to so that i can hear about their names too!

Looking forward to hearing about how you got your names!

Great name stories Coco. Of course we thought your name might have relation to Channel, another great diva! Our mommy loves Hebrew names since they have such meaning. Our hooman sister's name is Jessica, but her Yiddish name is צַײטֶעלTzeitel. That means little dove! Good post.
